Title: Production Assistant
Description: Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children, located in Somerville, MA, seeks a Production Assistant. Reporting to the Senior Production Manager & Production Services Lead, this role will be responsible for managing the printing, manufacturing, and distribution of sales materials including lithos and ARCS (bound galleys), assisting and supporting the production team with 4c and 1c reprints, as well as assisting with routine departmental processes and tasks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Preparing frontlist print instructions through company database as assigned
-Receiving, approving, and distributing advances
-Attending frontlist pub meetings and reprint decide meetings as necessary
-Supporting the Reprints Production Controller by placing 4c reprints overseas
and 1c reprints domestically, based on scale pricing.
-Preparing cost estimates, print instructions, purchase orders, shipping
instructions, and shipping orders through company database
-Tracking reprint proofs for corrections/approval and entering invoice
instructions into company database for assigned reprints
-Monitoring frontlist schedules for availability of files for litho production
of Candlewick-originated picture books
-Preparing cost estimates and purchase orders based on scale pricing; and
reviewing and distributing lithos
-Requesting competitive quotations from vendors for ARCs; preparing cost
estimates and purchase orders; and reviewing and distributing ARCs
-Liaising with Walker Books UK and Walker Books Australia to solicit quantities
of CWP-originated lithos and ARCs
-Communicating specs and schedule changes for ARCs
-Maintaining up-to-date schedules for all sales materials
-Supporting Production Department by opening packages and distributing digital
proofs
-Maintaining the print library to keep it up-to-date and organized with most
current impression samples
-Assisting Senior Production Manager and Production Services Lead on a project
basis as assigned
-Performing other tasks as needed or assigned

This is a full-time position based in Somerville, MA with the option for hybrid work. The salary for this position is $42,000. Requirements: -A minimum of 1 year in a book production and print buying environment is
preferred, and ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of print
purchasing including estimating, scheduling, prepress, paper, and binding.
-Must be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess excellent organization,
communication, and interpersonal skills.
-Able to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and efficiently and
deal with issues diplomatically and tactfully.
